"We invite each thematic group to develop a high
profile session that involves one or more of the leading Australian
sociologists in an engaging forum of some sort. We think of something
like a forum discussing a contentious issue or proposition with one or
more speakers and plenty of audience engagement, a meet the author
session, a research workshop, etc... The options are considerable.
We
leave the possibilities to your imagination - the only major constraints
being that the session will need to be 90 minutes or less, and should not
require additional funding from TASA or the TASA conference.
These sessions would be in addition to the concurrent sessions of
submitted papers. We welcome your suggestions and proposals for such a
session in your area by 30 June this year, with names of speakers or panel
members and an indication that those listed have been approached and have
given provisional approval to their inclusion."
If you have any ideas or suggestions feel free to post them on this blog or contact Jo Lindsay

So are you wanted some good ideas we could run with? OK, what about the causes of the growth in LATs (Living Apart Together). Or why there is a plethora of people from whom the media seek comment about issues related to sexuality/relationships in particular - who are not Sociologists or even researchers or academics? How can more Sociologists become public intellectuals?
